Abstract

Sustainability awards are an exclusive instrument of sustainability communication. They are significant limited - mainly quantitative. Not everyone can get such a price. Often only a few, mostly one, wins a contest.Interest in sustainability prices grows. This interest express companies, the potential winners,and show the donors of awards, the awarding institutions. In the last yearsmore and more sustainability competitions in Germanyare founded.Meanwhile, companies in the food industry can participatein 24 competitions with 82 categories (as of 2013). It is a dynamic market of sustainability awards - with lots of potential, but also some challenges. Independence and transparency of procurement become important elements of awards’ concepts. In this report, 24 sustainability competitions and their categories are featured in factsheets. This include the relevant competitions directlyaimed at companies in the food industry or be open for those.The approach to identify them isdescribed. In addition, the evaluation scheme of transparency of sustainability competitions is explained. Key results are described. Nachhaltigkeitspreise, engl. Awards, sind ein exklusives Instrument der Nachhaltigkeits-kommunikation. Sie unterliegen hohen Zugangsbeschränkungen - vor allem quantitativen, die in den Händen der Vergabeinstitutionen und deren Juroren liegen. Nicht jeder kann einen solchen Preis erhalten. Oft werden nur wenige, teils nur ein Preisträger in einem Wettbewerb ausgewählt. Vor diesem Hintergrund wächst das Interesse an Nachhaltigkeitspreisen. Diese Interesse bekunden auchUnternehmen bzw. zeigen die Geber der Awards, die Vergabeinstitutionen: es werden in Deutschland in den letzten Jahren immer mehr Nachhaltigkeitswettbewerbe eingerichtet und viele Awards verliehen. Es ist ein dynamischer Markt der Nachhaltigkeitsawards entstanden – mit viel Potenzial, aber auch einigen Herausforderungen. Inzwischen können sich Unternehmen der Ernährungswirtschaft an 24 Wettbewerben in 82 Kategorien beteiligen (Stand: 2013). Unabhängigkeit und Transparenz der Vergabe werden zu wichtigen Gestaltungselementen von Awards, deren Etablierung und Bekanntheit zu Förderern ihrer Reputation. In diesem Arbeitsbericht werden 24 Nachhaltigkeitswettbewerbe und ihre Preiskategorien, die sich an Unternehmen der Ernährungswirtschaft richten bzw. für die geöffnet sind, in Fact Sheets vorgestellt. Die methodische Vorgehensweise der Identifizierung der relevanten Wettbewerbe und deren Beschreibung auf Basis einer Desktop-Recherche sind dokumentarisch vorangestellt. Außerdem wird das Bewertungsschema der Transparenz von Nachhaltigkeitswettbewerben aus Sicht eines normal Interessierten erläutert sowie zentrale Ergebnisse hierzu beschrieben.
