    RESUMEN: Los pronósticos confiables de radiación solar son necesarios para el funcionamiento óptimo de las plantas energéticas basadas en energía solar, principalmente para la planificación operativa y la gestión del recurso. En este trabajo, se evalúa el modelo atmosférico Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF), en el pronóstico de irradiancia solar, para simulaciones con horizontes de 24 y 48 horas. Para lograrlo se compararon las simulaciones del modelo con mediciones in situ obtenidas del Sistema de Alertas Temprana del Valle de Aburrá (SIATA); además, se comparó WRF con el modelo más simple encontrado: la persistencia. Los resultados de la evaluación muestran que, según los valores del Mean Bias Error (MBE), el modelo tiende a sobreestimar la radiación solar en los diferentes periodos de estudio, tanto para los horizontes de 24 horas como para los de 48 horas. Los valores de este error, en su mayoría, se mantienen por debajo del 20%, pero se evidencian pocos días donde el error superó el 100%. Por su parte, los resultados mostraron valores del Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) particularmente más altos para los meses de temporada lluviosa en la región de estudio, lo cual puede sugerir un mejor rendimiento del modelo para condiciones de cielo despejado. WRF mostró problemas para representar los datos atípicos de radiación, ya que, en general, las correlaciones de las anomalías con respecto al ciclo diurno entre el modelo y las mediciones in situ fueron no significativas. En general, WRF presenta un mejor rendimiento que el modelo de persistencia, aunque el rendimiento fue muy similar en algunos meses del periodo de estudio. Por otra parte, el rendimiento del modelo no disminuyó con el horizonte de tiempo (24 vs. 48 horas), más bien el segundo horizonte (D2, 48 h) de simulaciones de WRF presentó medianas de los diferentes errores con magnitudes menores a las del primer horizonte (D1, 24h) en casi todos los meses de estudio, lo que podría indicar que el modelo necesita más tiempo de estabilización del normalmente ...

    Resumen: Durante el año 2019, un grupo de investigadores de Energética 2030 nos dimos a la tarea de desarrollar un ejercicio prospectivo sobre el futuro del sector energético colombiano hasta el año 2030. Para hacerlo, hicimos una revisión de escenarios previos de distintas agencias y organismos, entrevistamos a los líderes de las compañías más importantes del sector eléctrico, y realizamos talleres con empresas, instituciones gubernamentales, académicos y miembros de la sociedad civil. Los escenarios que planteamos en ese momento se entendían como proyecciones futuras que no consideraban fuertes disrupciones externas. Sin embargo, la pandemia global del COVID-19 declarada en febrero de 2020, está generando profundos impactos económicos, políticos, sociales, culturales y tecnológicos a nivel global. Esto era algo que no hubiéramos podido considerar en nuestros escenarios iniciales.

    The purpose of this paper is to investigate whether there is a significant correlation between energy subsidies in Mexico and some dimensions of sustainable development. In this sense are analyzed the CO2 emissions, subsidies per capita energy sector, the annual growth rate of GDP, electricity consumption per capita and the production of equivalent fossil fuel energy. This research has been between the 2004-2010 period in the recent history of that country. Finally the results are studied and also are established different recommendations related to energy policy and even are presented some possible future research lines in this entire topic. © 2018, Centro de Investigacion y Docencia Economicas A.C.     The Grupo EPM is experiencing a remarkable change in its strategy of social responsibility. The aim of this paper is to analyses the relationship between the strategy change and the political stance of the company in the hydropower Río Grande II area of influence in Colombia. Social responsibility is assumed theoretically as a corporate sustainability initiative. An exploratory case study is adopted. Results suggest that the corporation seeks a more central position in the relationship with the State and the local community. The relationship with the State is oriented towards the collective construction of territory, and with the local community is desired to be more participatory. This new corporative stance leads to still unexplored processes where costs and benefits are shared with the State and the community. © 2014, Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. All rights reserved.

    RESUMEN: Caracterizar la variabilidad de la irradiancia solar sobre la superficie terrestre constituye un paso fundamental para impulsar la implementación de sistemas de energía solar. Frente a la baja disponibilidad de mediciones in situ, las estimaciones de reanálisis y satélites representan alternativas para obtener series de tiempo continuas a largo plazo. En este estudio, se estimó el recurso solar en el Valle de Aburrá a partir de cuatro de años de mediciones terrestres provistas por el piranómetro de la estación Torre SIATA y se evaluó el producto radiación solar de onda corta descendente sobre la superficie obtenido del reanálisis ERA5 y del instrumento ABI del satélite GOES-16. Las observaciones de SIATA mostraron que la radiación solar mensual sobre la superficie del Valle de Aburrá exhibe aumentos en sus magnitudes y menor variabilidad durante las temporadas secas del lugar de estudio, mientras que en las temporadas de altas precipitaciones, los valores promedios son menores y el rango de fluctuación es más amplio. En concreto, febrero y agosto son los meses con mayor disponibilidad del recurso solar con promedios mensuales de 469.28 W/m2 y 472.44 W/m2, respectivamente; mientras que mayo y noviembre son los meses que reciben menor cantidad de radiación solar al tener valores mensuales de 398.21 W/m2 y 393.89 W/m2, respectivamente. La evaluación de los conjuntos de datos satelitales y de reanálisis mostró valores de sesgo medio entre 40 W/m2 y 140 W/m2 para GOES-16 y entre -5 W/m2 y 73 W/m2 para ERA5. Se encontró que ambos conjuntos presentan limitaciones para representar el comportamiento típico y la variabilidad de la radiación solar a diferentes escalas temporales, principalmente bajo condiciones de nubosidad y alta precipitación. A escala mensual, el conjunto de datos de GOES-16 presenta una correlación de Pearson de 0.61 con las observaciones in situ y sus valores mensuales de error cuadrático medio (RMSE) oscilan entre 32% y 40% durante las temporadas secas y entre 42% y 52% en las temporadas ...

    RESUMEN : El clima es un elemento que influye en la estructura social de las comunidades agrupadas en pueblos y ciudades. Sin embargo, a nivel global experimenta cambios significativos asociados al incremento de los gases de efecto invernadero, que impactan a nivel local, generando nuevas dinámicas territoriales, que agudizan las ya existentes (economía, medios de producción, salud, recursos naturales, entre otros). Si bien estos fenómenos son estudiados ampliamente en grandes ciudades, a nivel de ciudades o comunidades intermedias y pequeñas, su estudio aún no es relevante. Por lo tanto, en esta investigación, pretendemos describir los impactos y los riesgos del cambio climático mediante un estudio de caso de la región Andina aplicado en el municipio de Pasto (Colombia), con una ciudad intermedia que alberga a más del 80% de su población, ubicada en el nodo de los Pastos de la Cordillera de las Andes, con una morfología de montaña y altas pendientes, que lo hace susceptible frente al cambio climático. La metodología propuesta consistió en utilizar el método de análisis estructural para reconocer y establecer las relaciones causales de los elementos que describen sistémicamente el desarrollo del municipio. Posteriormente, con la prueba de estabilidad, identificamos que las series de tiempo de temperatura y precipitación del periodo 2006-2019, cambiaron significativamente respecto al periodo 1976-2005, lo que permite inferior que se está gestando un cambio en el clima local. De ahí que, con la información disponible, las relaciones causales identificadas, y el método correlacional, definimos matemáticamente las relaciones entre las variables climáticas y las urbanas en el periodo 2004-2019, con el fin reconocer las trayectorias que siguen las variables urbanas impactadas por la variabilidad del clima.     The Internet of Things (IoT) is an enabling paradigm for Industry 4.0, where sensors and actuators connect to the Internet. The protocol LoRaWAN (Long Range Area Network) is one of the most used in the IoT, and its primary objective is to transmit sensor information over long distances with minimal energy consumption. This protocol implements Adaptive Data Rate scheme to optimize the energy consumed per node, which, when evaluated through exhaustive simulations in Omnet ++, has exhibited opportunities for improvement in convergence time. The present work shows machine learning models based on parametric and non-parametric methods based on Support Vector Machines (SVM) and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN).     RESUMEN : En este documento se presenta el funcionamiento del inversor puente H monofásico conectado a la red y se deduce su modelo matemático con el método de referencia y reacción. Se observa la variación entre los interruptores IGBT’s y los diodos conectados antiparalelos, los cuales se polarizan cuando los inductores de acople a la red inyectan energía reactiva al inversor. Se deduce el control PI, haciendo uso de la herramienta de simulación Matlab (sisotool), posteriormente se modela un bloque de simulación de control en el software OpenModelica y se comprueba a través de la simulación el correcto funcionamiento del inversor y su control. La información suministrada presenta un aporte a la solución del modelo matemático del inversor a través del método de referencia y reacción, puede ser utilizada como una base para el desarrollo de simulación, control y optimización del inversor. ; ABSTRACT : This paper presents the operation of the single-phase H-bridge inverter connected to the grid and it deduces its mathematical model with the reference and reaction method. The variation between the IGBT switches and the anti-parallel connected diodes, which are polarized when the grid coupling inductors inject reactive power to the inverter is observed. The PI control is deduced, making use of the Matlab simulation tool (sisotool), then a control simulation block is modeled in the OpenModelica software, and the correct operation of the inverter and its control is verified through the simulation. The information provided presents a contribution to the solution of the mathematical model of the inverter through the reference and reaction method, it can be used as a basis for the development of simulation, control, and optimization of the inverter.

    The production of activated carbon from residual biomass generated in the production of oil palm, fiber (F) and shell (C) was studied. The chemical activation was done using ZnCl2 and the adsorption capacity of methylene blue (AM) at different concentrations (50, 100, and 150 mg/L) was evaluated. Results showed a good development of pore with surface areas of 835.3 m2/g for activated fiber (FA) and 575.1 m2/g for activated shell (CA). A good fit of the experimental data with the pseudo second order kinetic model and with Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms models was found.     RESUMEN: Los pronósticos confiables de radiación solar son necesarios para el funcionamiento óptimo de las plantas energéticas basadas en energía solar, principalmente para la planificación operativa y la gestión del recurso. En este trabajo, se evalúa el modelo atmosférico Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF), en el pronóstico de irradiancia solar, para simulaciones con horizontes de 24 y 48 horas. Para lograrlo se compararon las simulaciones del modelo con mediciones in situ obtenidas del Sistema de Alertas Temprana del Valle de Aburrá (SIATA); además, se comparó WRF con el modelo más simple encontrado: la persistencia. Los resultados de la evaluación muestran que, según los valores del Mean Bias Error (MBE), el modelo tiende a sobreestimar la radiación solar en los diferentes periodos de estudio, tanto para los horizontes de 24 horas como para los de 48 horas. Los valores de este error, en su mayoría, se mantienen por debajo del 20%, pero se evidencian pocos días donde el error superó el 100%. Por su parte, los resultados mostraron valores del Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) particularmente más altos para los meses de temporada lluviosa en la región de estudio, lo cual puede sugerir un mejor rendimiento del modelo para condiciones de cielo despejado. WRF mostró problemas para representar los datos atípicos de radiación, ya que, en general, las correlaciones de las anomalías con respecto al ciclo diurno entre el modelo y las mediciones in situ fueron no significativas. En general, WRF presenta un mejor rendimiento que el modelo de persistencia, aunque el rendimiento fue muy similar en algunos meses del periodo de estudio. Por otra parte, el rendimiento del modelo no disminuyó con el horizonte de tiempo (24 vs. 48 horas), más bien el segundo horizonte (D2, 48 h) de simulaciones de WRF presentó medianas de los diferentes errores con magnitudes menores a las del primer horizonte (D1, 24h) en casi todos los meses de estudio, lo que podría indicar que el modelo necesita más tiempo de estabilización del normalmente ...

    Resumen: Durante el año 2019, un grupo de investigadores de Energética 2030 nos dimos a la tarea de desarrollar un ejercicio prospectivo sobre el futuro del sector energético colombiano hasta el año 2030. Para hacerlo, hicimos una revisión de escenarios previos de distintas agencias y organismos, entrevistamos a los líderes de las compañías más importantes del sector eléctrico, y realizamos talleres con empresas, instituciones gubernamentales, académicos y miembros de la sociedad civil. Los escenarios que planteamos en ese momento se entendían como proyecciones futuras que no consideraban fuertes disrupciones externas. Sin embargo, la pandemia global del COVID-19 declarada en febrero de 2020, está generando profundos impactos económicos, políticos, sociales, culturales y tecnológicos a nivel global. Esto era algo que no hubiéramos podido considerar en nuestros escenarios iniciales.

    The purpose of this paper is to investigate whether there is a significant correlation between energy subsidies in Mexico and some dimensions of sustainable development. In this sense are analyzed the CO2 emissions, subsidies per capita energy sector, the annual growth rate of GDP, electricity consumption per capita and the production of equivalent fossil fuel energy. This research has been between the 2004-2010 period in the recent history of that country.     The Grupo EPM is experiencing a remarkable change in its strategy of social responsibility. The aim of this paper is to analyses the relationship between the strategy change and the political stance of the company in the hydropower Río Grande II area of influence in Colombia. Social responsibility is assumed theoretically as a corporate sustainability initiative. An exploratory case study is adopted. Results suggest that the corporation seeks a more central position in the relationship with the State and the local community. The relationship with the State is oriented towards the collective construction of territory, and with the local community is desired to be more participatory.     RESUMEN: Caracterizar la variabilidad de la irradiancia solar sobre la superficie terrestre constituye un paso fundamental para impulsar la implementación de sistemas de energía solar. Frente a la baja disponibilidad de mediciones in situ, las estimaciones de reanálisis y satélites representan alternativas para obtener series de tiempo continuas a largo plazo. En este estudio, se estimó el recurso solar en el Valle de Aburrá a partir de cuatro de años de mediciones terrestres provistas por el piranómetro de la estación Torre SIATA y se evaluó el producto radiación solar de onda corta descendente sobre la superficie obtenido del reanálisis ERA5 y del instrumento ABI del satélite GOES-16. Las observaciones de SIATA mostraron que la radiación solar mensual sobre la superficie del Valle de Aburrá exhibe aumentos en sus magnitudes y menor variabilidad durante las temporadas secas del lugar de estudio, mientras que en las temporadas de altas precipitaciones, los valores promedios son menores y el rango de fluctuación es más amplio. En concreto, febrero y agosto son los meses con mayor disponibilidad del recurso solar con promedios mensuales de 469.28 W/m2 y 472.44 W/m2, respectivamente; mientras que mayo y noviembre son los meses que reciben menor cantidad de radiación solar al tener valores mensuales de 398.21 W/m2 y 393.89 W/m2, respectivamente. La evaluación de los conjuntos de datos satelitales y de reanálisis mostró valores de sesgo medio entre 40 W/m2 y 140 W/m2 para GOES-16 y entre -5 W/m2 y 73 W/m2 para ERA5. Se encontró que ambos conjuntos presentan limitaciones para representar el comportamiento típico y la variabilidad de la radiación solar a diferentes escalas temporales, principalmente bajo condiciones de nubosidad y alta precipitación.     RESUMEN : El clima es un elemento que influye en la estructura social de las comunidades agrupadas en pueblos y ciudades. Sin embargo, a nivel global experimenta cambios significativos asociados al incremento de los gases de efecto invernadero, que impactan a nivel local, generando nuevas dinámicas territoriales, que agudizan las ya existentes (economía, medios de producción, salud, recursos naturales, entre otros). Si bien estos fenómenos son estudiados ampliamente en grandes ciudades, a nivel de ciudades o comunidades intermedias y pequeñas, su estudio aún no es relevante. Por lo tanto, en esta investigación, pretendemos describir los impactos y los riesgos del cambio climático mediante un estudio de caso de la región Andina aplicado en el municipio de Pasto (Colombia), con una ciudad intermedia que alberga a más del 80% de su población, ubicada en el nodo de los Pastos de la Cordillera de las Andes, con una morfología de montaña y altas pendientes, que lo hace susceptible frente al cambio climático. La metodología propuesta consistió en utilizar el método de análisis estructural para reconocer y establecer las relaciones causales de los elementos que describen sistémicamente el desarrollo del municipio. Posteriormente, con la prueba de estabilidad, identificamos que las series de tiempo de temperatura y precipitación del periodo 2006-2019, cambiaron significativamente respecto al periodo 1976-2005, lo que permite inferior que se está gestando un cambio en el clima local. De ahí que, con la información disponible, las relaciones causales identificadas, y el método correlacional, definimos matemáticamente las relaciones entre las variables climáticas y las urbanas en el periodo 2004-2019, con el fin reconocer las trayectorias que siguen las variables urbanas impactadas por la variabilidad del clima.     The Internet of Things (IoT) is an enabling paradigm for Industry 4.0, where sensors and actuators connect to the Internet. The protocol LoRaWAN (Long Range Area Network) is one of the most used in the IoT, and its primary objective is to transmit sensor information over long distances with minimal energy consumption. This protocol implements Adaptive Data Rate scheme to optimize the energy consumed per node, which, when evaluated through exhaustive simulations in Omnet ++, has exhibited opportunities for improvement in convergence time. The present work shows machine learning models based on parametric and non-parametric methods based on Support Vector Machines (SVM) and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN).     RESUMEN : En este documento se presenta el funcionamiento del inversor puente H monofásico conectado a la red y se deduce su modelo matemático con el método de referencia y reacción. Se observa la variación entre los interruptores IGBT’s y los diodos conectados antiparalelos, los cuales se polarizan cuando los inductores de acople a la red inyectan energía reactiva al inversor. Se deduce el control PI, haciendo uso de la herramienta de simulación Matlab (sisotool), posteriormente se modela un bloque de simulación de control en el software OpenModelica y se comprueba a través de la simulación el correcto funcionamiento del inversor y su control. La información suministrada presenta un aporte a la solución del modelo matemático del inversor a través del método de referencia y reacción, puede ser utilizada como una base para el desarrollo de simulación, control y optimización del inversor. ; ABSTRACT : This paper presents the operation of the single-phase H-bridge inverter connected to the grid and it deduces its mathematical model with the reference and reaction method. The variation between the IGBT switches and the anti-parallel connected diodes, which are polarized when the grid coupling inductors inject reactive power to the inverter is observed. The PI control is deduced, making use of the Matlab simulation tool (sisotool), then a control simulation block is modeled in the OpenModelica software, and the correct operation of the inverter and its control is verified through the simulation. The information provided presents a contribution to the solution of the mathematical model of the inverter through the reference and reaction method, it can be used as a basis for the development of simulation, control, and optimization of the inverter.

    The production of activated carbon from residual biomass generated in the production of oil palm, fiber (F) and shell (C) was studied. The chemical activation was done using ZnCl2 and the adsorption capacity of methylene blue (AM) at different concentrations (50, 100, and 150 mg/L) was evaluated. Results showed a good development of pore with surface areas of 835.3 m2/g for activated fiber (FA) and 575.1 m2/g for activated shell (CA). A good fit of the experimental data with the pseudo second order kinetic model and with Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms models was found.
