    As society is continuously embracing Information Technologies (IT) in different fields from everyday life, the construction industry will also be affected by this transformation. With the recent deployment of IT for the construction industry, new opportunities and approaches are being sought to enhance the buildings efficiency, sustainability, and general quality. Among the most recognized IT, Building Information Modelling (BIM) stands out as a major industry change driver. By allowing multi-disciplinary information to be overlaid into a single model, BIM creates an opportunity to incorporate sustainable measures in a project. BIM can act throughout all the building lifecycle, making it an added value for the customer and society. Digitalization impacts will benefit the whole society, with better constructions that consume fewer resources and operate more efficiently. This chapter identifies the current IT applications for the construction industry with focus on BIM method. Current applications, benefits and challenges are identified, as well as software and procedures. Moreover, the integration process of digital technologies to enhance constructions sustainability is analysed, highlighting the impact on project development and quality. Despite the increased use and benefits of IT, current tools and working methods are not properly oriented for sustainability purposes yet. Nevertheless, IT has great potential for sustainable construction, and it is an essential tool for developing high-performance buildings. Main contributions are given during the early project phases, either by providing reliable data for decision-making or to increase process efficiency.

    Resumo: Este trabalho parte da premissa que as tecnologias para smart grid se apresentam como oportunidade para criar um novo negócio de energia. Todos os stake-holders devem ser envolvidos, e organizados para construir ou modernizar a rede de energia em seus aspectos de qualidade, disponibilidade, infraestrutura, padronização, interoperabilidade, confiabilidade e sustentabilidade. Deve-se também buscar a consciência de uso/demanda, de renda e de entendimento dos clientes de forma adequada. Pondera-se que as estratégias governamentais, no âmbito da legislação e da regulamentação, devem ser objetivas para garantir o novo negócio e proteger o interesse público. Os consumidores (como clientes) devem ser ouvidos, tornando-se partícipes ativos no mercado de energia. Com o desenvolvimento de um relacionamento dinâmico a indústria de energia necessitará de novas condições e requisitos operacionais que devem ser criados para garantir a transformação dentro e fora do ambiente de negócios regional. Foram estudadas novas tecnologias, novas possibilidades de serviços e preços. Incentivos, bem como a evolução das normas regulatórias apareceram como fundamentais para manter e expandir o fornecimento da energia e gerenciar a demanda, com implicações na melhora do relacionamento e nos investimentos/receitas para o capital investido, que necessitam resultar na ampliação da percepção de valor da energia pelos clientes. Uma avaliação para o caso brasileiro é feita considerando-se a experiência internacional até a data e através de exemplo de aplicação em consumidores residenciais como um estudo de caso. Demonstra-se o impacto para e do consumidor doméstico nos processos de uso da energia, bem como a evolução necessária de sistemas, estratégias para que se alcance o desejado momento histórico do desenvolvimento, da reorganização do mercado de energia e da legislação/regulamentação. Em suma, a evolução do negócio de energia no Brasil é um fato que, para sua eficácia, deve ser estrategicamente planejado nos diversos âmbitos de aplicação de tecnologias e modelagem do negócio, receber incentivos e ser regulado. Questões relacionadas aos investimentos a serem realizados e o retorno destes investimentos devem ser respondidas caso a caso, segundo a realidade regional das concessões, segundo as previsões de compartilhamento de custos com os consumidores e também totalmente relacionadas com a regulamentação adotada. A possiblidade da oferta de serviços e produtos para atendimento e ampliação do espaço de atuação das concessionárias brasileiras é uma transformação necessária para seu reconhecimento como provedoras de soluções energéticas. Abstract: The smart grid technologies present themselves as opportunities to create new energy business. All stake holders must be involved, organizing, building and upgrading the power grid in its aspects of quality, availability, infrastructure, standards, reliability, interconnectivity, and sustainability. It is necessary the awareness target of supply-demand, incomes and strongly understand their clients. The Governmental strategies must be clear, with regulatory and legislative initiatives to foster new business and protect the public interest. Consumers (as clients) must be heard, as they become active players in the energy market. As they develop a dynamic relationship with the operating power industry new conditions and requirements need to be created in order to lead the strategic transformation inside and outside regional businesses. Deals on new energy sources, new technologies, new possibilities of differentials service and prices were studied. Incentives as well as the evolution of regulation rules seem a fundamental role to maintain and to expand the power supply and demand-side management, with implications for a better relationship between client-consumers, dealers and incomes/revenues on invested capital. It is also important to relate and to rethink the affordability of the tariffs and energy delivery costs to clients. An evaluation to the Brazilian market was done, considering the up to date international experiences and running an application, specially built to demonstrate the domestic consumption, as a case study. This implemented case is presented in order to demonstrate the domestic consumer impact to the energy use as well as the required evolution of systems and strategies to move on to this historical moment of development and reorganization of the energy market as well as the legislation/regulation. To sum up, evolving energy business in Brazil does not appear in this analysis merely as a possibility but as fact to be accomplished. It should be strategically planned considering the scope of a number of different technology applications, business models and be promoted by the policies agencies. Questions related to investments and their profits should be answered according to the regional energy business, as well as the consumer's participation and obviously new legislation and market regulation. Services and products to be offered by the Brazilian energy dealers should evolve correspondingly in order to improve business and recognition as energy solution providers Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Engenharia Mecânica Doutor em Planejamento de Sistemas Energéticos Orientador: Gilberto De Martino Jannuzzi Planejamento de Sistemas Energéticos Doutorado

    Authors: Lima Júnior, Orlando de Sousa;

    Esta pesquisa visa identificar práticas que ajudem a assegurar a sustentabilidade e a inovação através da gestão de projetos (PM) de pequenas e médias empresas (SMEs). Embora a gestão de projetos tenha sido desenvolvida na segunda metade do século XX, a atividade económica orientada para projetos está a aumentar, tornando-a um veículo para a implementação da sustentabilidade e da inovação. Foi realizada uma revisão sistemática da literatura, considerando os artigos das principais bases de dados para compreender: quais são estas práticas, a evolução deste tema ao longo dos anos, e as principais revistas relacionadas. Além disso, foram também identificados benefícios obtidos por aqueles que fizeram uso deste tipo de práticas. A metodologia Principais Itens para Relatar Revisões Sistemáticas e Meta-análises (PRISMA) 2020 foi utilizada para ajudar a selecionar os artigos com maiores contribuições entre os identificados. No total, foram identificadas 86 práticas sustentáveis, 166 práticas inovadoras e 61 benefícios. As práticas e benefícios foram segmentados em categorias de acordo com os assuntos com os quais estão mais relacionados. Assim, as práticas sustentáveis foram divididas de acordo com as três dimensões do "tripé da sustentabilidade" (TBL); as práticas inovadoras foram divididas em treze categorias; os benefícios foram segmentados em sete categorias. A prática relacionada com a sustentabilidade mais frequentemente mencionada foi a gestão de resíduos; a prática relacionada com a inovação mais frequentemente mencionada foi a difusão e partilha de informação, ideias e conhecimentos. Quanto aos benefícios alcançados, as categorias com maior número de benefícios são as relacionadas com a organização e a vantagem competitiva. Finalmente, foi realizada uma análise bibliométrica tendo em consideração os dados bibliométricos dos principais artigos relacionados com este tema. Com o auxílio do software VOSviewer, identificou-se e analisou-se os principais grupos de temas e autores com a mais fortes redes de ligação em termos de autoria e citações. This research aims to identify practices that help to ensure sustainability and innovation through Project Management (PM) within Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs). Although PM has been developed in the second half of the 20th century, project-based economic activity has increased, turning it into a vehicle for implementing sustainability and innovation. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was conducted, considering articles in the main databases to understand: which are these practices, the evolution of this theme over the years, and the main related journals. In addition, it was also proposed to identify the benefits obtained by those who have made use of these types of practices. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) 2020 methodology was used to help select the articles with the greatest contributions among those identified in the databases. In total, 86 sustainable practices, 166 innovative practices and 61 benefits were identified. The practices and benefits were segmented into categories according to the subject they are most related to. Thus, the sustainable practices were divided according to the three dimensions of the Triple Bottom Line (TBL); the innovative practices were divided into thirteen categories; the benefits were segmented into seven categories. The most frequently mentioned sustainability-related practice was ‘Implementing waste management’; the most frequently mentioned innovation-related practice was 'Diffusing and sharing information, ideas and knowledge’. Concerning the benefits achieved, the categories with the highest number of benefits are those related to the organization and competitive advantage. Finally, a bibliometric analysis was carried out taking into consideration the bibliometric data of the main articles related to this theme. With the support of the VOSviewer software, the main groups of themes and authors with the strongest network link in terms of authorship and citations were identified and analyzed. “Il Cammino” of the Montefeltro's Duke is a cross-section of geological and human history in the Umbrian-Marchigiano Apennines that starting from Urbino, UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the cultural capital of the Italian Renaissance passes through woods, countryside, mountains, and villages to reach the medieval Gubbio where Federico the future Montefeltro's Duke was born. A Team of the University of Urbino made up of geologists, historians, archaeologists, sociologists, and economists, together with CAI (Club Alpino Italiano), which has provided a small but significant economic contribution (Terre Alte Research Fund 2021) proposes and develops a project to define this new way. It passes through places, such as the Furlo and Bottaccione Gorges, which are very famous not only among geologists. The geological history that starts from 200 My and reaches the present, crossing time and telling of mass extinctions, climate change, and much more is well exposed here and it is just waiting to be disclosed. The Gubbio - Urbino geological cross-section encloses all these stories, as well as the history of man and the culture which developed in these places. The great landscape charm resulting from the interaction between man and nature has provided the raw material for the main artists: Ariosto reports on Furlo when he describes the places of Orlando furioso; Torquato Tasso composes his Ode al Metauro; Raphael portraits the Candigliano valley in his paintings; Dante tells about Fonte Avellana on the slopes of Monte Catria in Divina Commedia. In addition to the tracing and survey of geo-touristic peculiarities carried out also involving students of different courses of the University of Urbino, tools for communication and spreading of knowledge have been developed, such as an informative geological map of paths and geological and geomorphological points of interest of the Furlo Nature Reserve, together with digital aids (BOT on Telegram: “furlogeobot”). The "Cammini" are “a slow mobility network giving the country a veritable green infrastructure and offering the ability to travel throughout Italy on foot" (MIC - https://www.turismo.beniculturali.it/home-cammini-ditalia/atlante-dei-cammini /), cross regions that are often wrongly treated as marginal, to tell stories, which become a tool for sustainable and responsible tourism development. The project, which starts from a tale of the geological history that crosses the human one, aims to promote the territory by providing alternative chances for sustainable economic growth of entrepreneurial realities (touristic, artisanal, eno-gastronomic activities) often small but very rich in hospitality and typicality of the high lands of this part of the Apennines. Attention to the social impact of the path takes concrete form in the intention, right from the conceptual phase, careful to cross, together with geological and historical emergencies, even the wounds that have been inflicted on the landscape by non-sustainable development choices. At the same time, the engagement of a multidisciplinary team is aimed at developing tools and methods for detecting both the economic and social impact of the journey itself through mapping techniques of institutional and associational activities and realities that can contribute to the involvement and synergies at a territorial level. In this way we want also to enhance the synergies that can be created between this and other projects promoted by educational agencies, associations, and businesses in the area.

    This co-creation toolkit provides tools and guidelines for starting and running a responsible innovation process. Based on the experiences from 19 workshops and additional theoretical research, this Toolkit aims to provide an insight into the key principles and a variety of practical tips. The toolkit shows how Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) can enrich innovation processes by giving an insight on what Responsible Research and Innovation means and how to use tools to engage with co-creation and Design Thinking. The toolkit provides answers to the following questions that arise when setting up an inclusive process: What should I be clear about before I start? What are important success factors? Whom to involve when? What practical considerations are important? What methods to use? What do I have to consider at the workshop itself? What do I have to do at the end and after the workshop?

    Abstract The aim of the Green Brewery Concept is to demonstrate the potential for reducing thermal energy consumption in breweries, to substantially lower fossil CO2 emissions and to develop an expert tool in order to provide a strategic approach to reach this reduction. Within the project ?Green Brewery? 3 detailed case studies have been performed and a Green Brewery Concept has been developed. The project outcomes show that it is preferable to develop a tool instead of a simple guideline where a pathway to a CO2 neutral thermal energy supply is shown for different circumstances. The methodology of the Green Brewery Concept includes detailed energy balancing, calculation of minimal thermal energy demand, process optimization, heat integration and finally the integration of renewable energy based on exergetic considerations. For the studied breweries, one brewery with optimized heat recovery can potentially supply its thermal energy demand over own resources (excluding space heating). The energy produced from biogas from biogenic residues of breweries and waste water exceeds the remaining thermal process energy demand of 37 MJ/hl produced beer. correspondence: Corresponding author: Bettina Muster-Slawitsch, Tel.: +43 3112 5886 71, Fax: +43 3112 5886 18.     Authors: Wambuguh, O;

    The development of renewable energy technologies (RETs) in many areas far from grid-based electricity have primarily involved solar photovoltaics (SPVs) which tap solar radiation to provide heat, light, hot water, electricity, and cooling for homes, businesses, and industry. A study on RETs took place in the Wiyumiririe Location of Laikipia District (north-central Kenya), a rich agricultural region. To explore this solar initiative in such a remote part of the country, a purposive randomized convenience sample of 246 households was selected and landowner interviews conducted, followed by field visits and observations. Although more than half of the households visited had SPV installations, solar energy was found to contribute only 18% of household estimated total energy needs; most residents still primarily relying on traditional energy sources. Several types of solar panels of different capacities and costs were utilized. Many landowners had at least one or two rooms using solar energy for household lighting, for appliance charging and to power radio and television. Almost all respondents appreciated that solar energy was clean renewable energy that greatly improved household living conditions; gave them some prestige; was easy to use and maintain; and was available year around. Although such significant benefits were associated with SPVs, only about 40% of residents interviewed were somehow satisfied with its development. Respondents expressed specific developmental initiatives that were closely associated with the availability of solar energy. Nevertheless, a number of challenges were raised associated with SPVs primarily investment capital and equipment costs and maintenance. As solutions to capital building will not solely rely on subsidies or individual farmer inputs, strategies must be found to mobilize the essential and tested tools for success including sustainable capital generation, building local institutions and capacities that integrate rural people, local participation in rural development activities and public education and training.

    Since fiscal year 2010 the World Bank has supported 20 smart grid projects in 19 countries and all six Bank regions. Valued at 960 million dollars - a quarter of all Bank support for transmission and distribution during the period — the projects have focused on advanced metering, distribution automation, and supervisory control and data acquisition for energy and distribution management systems. Some of these projects are still under implementation, but task teams are learning valuable lessons about how to implement smart grid projects most effectively.

    This thesis aims to determine what CSR issues stakeholders in the wind power industry careabout and how stakeholders want to be involved in these issues. The objective is furthermoreto test and improve the theory of stakeholder involvement – the normative idea thatstakeholder management should strive for maximum stakeholder involvement.The study is carried out using a case study, o2, an important actor in the wind power industryin Sweden. Five stakeholder groups are included in the study, customers, capital providers, inthe form of a major bank and a private equity company, NGO’s and lastly regulators.The study contributes directly to the stakeholder management practices in the wind powerindustry by giving guidance on how to prioritize among different stakeholder groups as wellas to the untested theory of stakeholder involvement by applying the theory to a real casestudy.The result of the study suggests that stakeholders value environmentally related CSR issuesmore than socially related CSR issues. In particular the issues of emissions and flora & faunaare classified as the most important CSR issues for the wind power industry to manage.Furthermore, the theory of stakeholder involvement is shown to be misleading for thestakeholders closest to the company, the once with a direct contractual stake (customers andcapital providers). However, it is shown to be directly applicable, and useful, to thestakeholders more external to the company (NGO’s and regulators).

    Open Access funding provided thanks to the CRUE-CSIC agreement with Springer Nature. This work was supported by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities of Spain within its National Program for Research Aimed at the Challenges of Society under grant ECO2016-79659-R (Ecoinnovation and Circular Economy in Services Industries). The European Union (EU) is trying to accelerate the transition from the current linear economy to a circular economy (CE). In fact, the CE is considered a tool to attain sustainable development goals (SDGs). In this sense, this paper aims at analysing the interaction between the CE and SDGs in the context of the new 2030 Agenda and the European CE strategy; thus contributing to the scarce empirical literature that links the potential of the European CE strategy to the achievement of the SDGs set by the 2030 Agenda. Three specific research questions have been formulated. First, could the objectives defined in the 2030 Agenda be considered homogeneous, and could they uniquely measure the concept of sustainability? Second, are there significant correlations between the implementation of a CE in the EU and the SDGs? Finally, is the behaviour of the 28 countries that make up the EU homogeneous in terms of the results of the initiatives aimed at the implementation of a CE? From these questions, nine hypotheses are put forward concerning the possible relationships between a CE implementation and the fulfilment of SDGs in the EU. Using a correlation analysis, an exploratory factor analysis, and a cluster analysis, it has been demonstrated that (a) SDGs do not univocally measure the concept of sustainability; (b) there are significant relationships between CE and SDGs in the EU; (c) the behaviour of these European countries is not homogeneous.

    Authors: Lima Júnior, Orlando de Sousa;

    Abstract The aim of the Green Brewery Concept is to demonstrate the potential for reducing thermal energy consumption in breweries, to substantially lower fossil CO2 emissions and to develop an expert tool in order to provide a strategic approach to reach this reduction. Within the project ?Green Brewery? 3 detailed case studies have been performed and a Green Brewery Concept has been developed. The project outcomes show that it is preferable to develop a tool instead of a simple guideline where a pathway to a CO2 neutral thermal energy supply is shown for different circumstances. The methodology of the Green Brewery Concept includes detailed energy balancing, calculation of minimal thermal energy demand, process optimization, heat integration and finally the integration of renewable energy based on exergetic considerations. For the studied breweries, one brewery with optimized heat recovery can potentially supply its thermal energy demand over own resources (excluding space heating). The energy produced from biogas from biogenic residues of breweries and waste water exceeds the remaining thermal process energy demand of 37 MJ/hl produced beer. correspondence: Corresponding author: Bettina Muster-Slawitsch, Tel.: +43 3112 5886 71, Fax: +43 3112 5886 18.

Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities of Spain within its National Program for Research Aimed at the Challenges of Society ECO2016-79659-R CRUE-CSIC agreement with Springer Nature
