description Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Article 2023Publisher:National Library of Serbia Yanan Peng; Xuedong Liu; Xiaorong Hang; Jing Hou; Zehui Chang;Aiming at the large carbon emissions of facility agricultural heating in severe cold regions in winter, a compound parabolic concentrator based soil heating system was presented. The system integrated with novel trough compound parabolic concentrator and was used for soil heating in facility agriculture. Following the structure of the compound parabolic concentrator, TracePro software was selected to trace the light in the compound parabolic concentrator. The variation trend of the light escape rate of the compound parabolic concentrator with the different incident angles was analyzed. Based on the calculation results, the performance of the solar collector system was investigated, and the impact of circulating air velocity on the photo-thermal performance of the solar collector system was explored. Research results indicate that when the circulating air velocity is 1.4 m/s and the average ambient temperature is about 28.9?, the temperature of the system outlet is up to 90.9?. The average instantaneous heat collection, maximum photo-thermal conversion efficiency, and unit area heat collection of the system are 740.6 W, 27.83%, and 0.8 MJ/m2, respectively. This research can effectively promote the efficient integration of the solar collector system in facility agriculture.

An injector was then removed and the morphology, composition, and structure of the carbonaceous deposits on the pintle-type nozzle were characterized using a combination of HRTEM, SEM/EDAX, Raman and XRD. Results showed that the carbon deposition of the emulsified fuel with high crystallinity was greater than that of diesel. The agglomerated particulate diameters of the deposited carbon from diesel and emulsified fuel were approximately 10–30 μm and 50 μm, respectively. The carbon deposition mechanism from the emulsified fuel was attributed to the high oxygen content of the groups leading to increased polymerization and subsequent condensation on the nozzle surfaces that was then carbonised.

By analyzing real-world driving data, significant differences were seen in pedal operations but not in steering operations. Easing accelerator behaviors before entering unsignalized intersections were especially seen more often in expert driving. We propose two prediction models for driving behaviors in terms of traffic conditions and driver types: one is based on multiple linear regression analysis, which predicts whether the driver will steer, ease up on the accelerator, or brake. The second predicts driver decelerating intentions using a Bayesian Network. The proposed models could predict the three driving actions with over 70% accuracy, and about 50% of decelerating intentions were predicted before entering unsignalized intersections.

Rosen;Abstract This study develops a novel sustainability assessment methodology for energy systems using life-cycle emission factors and sustainability indicators. Here, the global warming and environmental impact dimensions of the sustainability assessment methodology are examined in detail. A comparative analysis shows that a wind-battery system produces fewer potential global warming, stratospheric ozone depletion, air pollution, and water pollution impacts compared to a gas-fired system. The wind-battery system generates 13% of the life-cycle GHG emissions and 22% of the life-cycle ozone-depleting substance emissions of a gas-fired power plant. Nitrous oxide contributes more than 90% of the stratospheric ozone depletion potential of gas-fired and wind-battery systems.

Under the certain flight conditions and the transient state control law, the main influencing factors affecting the position of low-pressure rotor transient state line are studied. They are the ratio of MIL (moment of inertia of low pressure rotor) to MIH (moment of inertia of high pressure rotor), the ratio of HPC (high pressure compressor) pressure ratio to LPC (low pressure compressor) pressure ratio and the ratio of design point HPR (high pressure rotor) speed to design point LPR (low pressure rotor) speed. The influence of these three factors on the position of low-pressure rotor transient state line is obtained and the mechanism is analyzed.

In the existing literature, the widely applied model-based approaches for remaining useful battery life estimation are limited by the complexity of the electrochemical modeling required. In addition, data-driven approaches for remaining useful battery life estimation commonly define unreliable sliding window sizes empirically and the prediction accuracy of these approaches needs to be improved. To address the above issues, use of a hybrid neural network with the false nearest neighbors method is proposed in this paper. First, the false nearest neighbors method is used to calculate the sliding window size required for prediction. Second, a hybrid neural network that combines the advantages of a convolutional neural network with those of long short-term memory is designed for model training and prediction. Remaining useful life prediction experiments for batteries with various rated capacities are performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach, and the results demonstrate that the proposed approach offers wide generality and reduced errors when compared with the other state-of-the-art methods.

Ragauskas; Chengrong Qin; Ajoy Kanti Mondal; Ajoy Kanti Mondal; Fang Huang; Yonghao Ni; Yonghao Ni;Abstract In the present study, Loblolly pine biomass residue was converted to bio-oil in a two-step process, consisting of 1) fast pyrolysis in the presence of zeolite ZSM-5 as a catalyst to produce pyrolysis oil, 2) hydrogenation of pyrolysis oil using formic acid as the hydrogen source in presence of Ru/activated carbon catalyst. Pyrolysis oils were analyzed by 13C, 31P and HSQC-NMR and the results revealed that the zeolite-induced catalytic fast pyrolysis process led to effective demethoxylation, producing more catechol and p-hydroxy-phenyl hydroxyl groups in the bio-oils, resulting in a decrease in the methoxyl group content by about 85 % and rich aromatic structures in the pyrolysis oils. The properties of pyrolysis oil with and without zeolite were in the bio-oil range. Hydrogenated pyrolysis oil showed that 79 % of the aromatic protons are eliminated and 87 % of protons are aliphatic in nature, with no oxygen attached to the α-carbon.

One phase armature winding of the three-phase machine is used as an auxiliary stator winding of the single-phase machine and is used to supply the exciting power for the other two-phase armature windings acting as the load winding of the single-phase machine. A 1.5 kW, 200 V, 60 Hz, four-pole synchronous machine was used the experiments. It is shown that the waveforms of the armature terminal voltage and the load current are nearly sinusoidal. The advantages of the single-phase machine as a portable generator or small-load motor are discussed. >

The excavation of a deep foundation pit adjacent to an existing tunnel may lead to the large deformation and induce damages in the tunnel structure. However, the influence on existing tunnel structure from nearby excavations has not been understood clearly, since it is affected by complex influencing factors of not only the geological and topographical conditions but also the construction method and positional relationship of the adjacent structures. This paper presents a numerical investigation into an existing underground rail transit line during the excavation of an adjacent deep foundation pit, in which the behavior of the existing tunnel structure from excavating the aforementioned foundation pit is clarified, and the effectiveness of the adopted three-dimensional model is confirmed by comparison between the numerically calculated and field-measured ground settlement of the monitoring point. The results demonstrate that the deformation of the existing tunnel structure is mostly induced by the excavation of the deep foundation pit. This study can provide a reference of deep excavations adjacent to existing infrastructures.

There is a lack of studies that cover the comprehensive assessment of both embodied energy (EE) and operational energy (OE) in a single optimization problem. The primary goal of the current study is to compare the optimized results of using OE+EE together and OE only. The optimization is performed on a case study building (townhouse) in Finland with three structural alternatives (i.e., reinforced concrete (RC); cross-laminated timber (CLT) and Steel). Different options for insulation thickness of external wall, roof, floor and window types were considered as decision variables as the scope of the present study is on building envelope. The objectives of the optimization are to minimize life cycle energy (LCE) and life cycle costs (LCC). The LCE difference between the most and least energy efficient solution on the pareto front is greater in case of the OE optimization, compared to OE+EE optimization. For all studied structures, the EE of the optimal solutions from OE+EE optimization ranges 16%–23% of LCE. Many of the non-dominated optimal solutions obtained from the OE+EE optimization shows a higher U-value for the building envelope components compared to the optimal solutions from the OE optimization. A relationship between both OE and EE with the overall thermal resistance of the building envelope is discussed to obtain a deeper understanding of such differences in U-value for the optimal solutions obtained from the OE+EE and OE optimization.

The system integrated with novel trough compound parabolic concentrator and was used for soil heating in facility agriculture. Following the structure of the compound parabolic concentrator, TracePro software was selected to trace the light in the compound parabolic concentrator. The variation trend of the light escape rate of the compound parabolic concentrator with the different incident angles was analyzed. Based on the calculation results, the performance of the solar collector system was investigated, and the impact of circulating air velocity on the photo-thermal performance of the solar collector system was explored. Research results indicate that when the circulating air velocity is 1.4 m/s and the average ambient temperature is about 28.9?, the temperature of the system outlet is up to 90.9?. The average instantaneous heat collection, maximum photo-thermal conversion efficiency, and unit area heat collection of the system are 740.6 W, 27.83%, and 0.8 MJ/m2, respectively. This research can effectively promote the efficient integration of the solar collector system in facility agriculture.

An injector was then removed and the morphology, composition, and structure of the carbonaceous deposits on the pintle-type nozzle were characterized using a combination of HRTEM, SEM/EDAX, Raman and XRD. Results showed that the carbon deposition of the emulsified fuel with high crystallinity was greater than that of diesel. The agglomerated particulate diameters of the deposited carbon from diesel and emulsified fuel were approximately 10–30 μm and 50 μm, respectively. The carbon deposition mechanism from the emulsified fuel was attributed to the high oxygen content of the groups leading to increased polymerization and subsequent condensation on the nozzle surfaces that was then carbonised.

By analyzing real-world driving data, significant differences were seen in pedal operations but not in steering operations. Easing accelerator behaviors before entering unsignalized intersections were especially seen more often in expert driving. We propose two prediction models for driving behaviors in terms of traffic conditions and driver types: one is based on multiple linear regression analysis, which predicts whether the driver will steer, ease up on the accelerator, or brake. The second predicts driver decelerating intentions using a Bayesian Network. The proposed models could predict the three driving actions with over 70% accuracy, and about 50% of decelerating intentions were predicted before entering unsignalized intersections.

Rosen;Abstract This study develops a novel sustainability assessment methodology for energy systems using life-cycle emission factors and sustainability indicators. Here, the global warming and environmental impact dimensions of the sustainability assessment methodology are examined in detail. A comparative analysis shows that a wind-battery system produces fewer potential global warming, stratospheric ozone depletion, air pollution, and water pollution impacts compared to a gas-fired system. The wind-battery system generates 13% of the life-cycle GHG emissions and 22% of the life-cycle ozone-depleting substance emissions of a gas-fired power plant. Nitrous oxide contributes more than 90% of the stratospheric ozone depletion potential of gas-fired and wind-battery systems.

They are the ratio of MIL (moment of inertia of low pressure rotor) to MIH (moment of inertia of high pressure rotor), the ratio of HPC (high pressure compressor) pressure ratio to LPC (low pressure compressor) pressure ratio and the ratio of design point HPR (high pressure rotor) speed to design point LPR (low pressure rotor) speed. The influence of these three factors on the position of low-pressure rotor transient state line is obtained and the mechanism is analyzed.

In the existing literature, the widely applied model-based approaches for remaining useful battery life estimation are limited by the complexity of the electrochemical modeling required. In addition, data-driven approaches for remaining useful battery life estimation commonly define unreliable sliding window sizes empirically and the prediction accuracy of these approaches needs to be improved. To address the above issues, use of a hybrid neural network with the false nearest neighbors method is proposed in this paper. First, the false nearest neighbors method is used to calculate the sliding window size required for prediction. Second, a hybrid neural network that combines the advantages of a convolutional neural network with those of long short-term memory is designed for model training and prediction. Remaining useful life prediction experiments for batteries with various rated capacities are performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach, and the results demonstrate that the proposed approach offers wide generality and reduced errors when compared with the other state-of-the-art methods.

Pyrolysis oils were analyzed by 13C, 31P and HSQC-NMR and the results revealed that the zeolite-induced catalytic fast pyrolysis process led to effective demethoxylation, producing more catechol and p-hydroxy-phenyl hydroxyl groups in the bio-oils, resulting in a decrease in the methoxyl group content by about 85 % and rich aromatic structures in the pyrolysis oils. The properties of pyrolysis oil with and without zeolite were in the bio-oil range. Hydrogenated pyrolysis oil showed that 79 % of the aromatic protons are eliminated and 87 % of protons are aliphatic in nature, with no oxygen attached to the α-carbon.

The excavation of a deep foundation pit adjacent to an existing tunnel may lead to the large deformation and induce damages in the tunnel structure. However, the influence on existing tunnel structure from nearby excavations has not been understood clearly, since it is affected by complex influencing factors of not only the geological and topographical conditions but also the construction method and positional relationship of the adjacent structures. This paper presents a numerical investigation into an existing underground rail transit line during the excavation of an adjacent deep foundation pit, in which the behavior of the existing tunnel structure from excavating the aforementioned foundation pit is clarified, and the effectiveness of the adopted three-dimensional model is confirmed by comparison between the numerically calculated and field-measured ground settlement of the monitoring point. The results demonstrate that the deformation of the existing tunnel structure is mostly induced by the excavation of the deep foundation pit. This study can provide a reference of deep excavations adjacent to existing infrastructures.

There is a lack of studies that cover the comprehensive assessment of both embodied energy (EE) and operational energy (OE) in a single optimization problem. The primary goal of the current study is to compare the optimized results of using OE+EE together and OE only. The optimization is performed on a case study building (townhouse) in Finland with three structural alternatives (i.e., reinforced concrete (RC); cross-laminated timber (CLT) and Steel). Different options for insulation thickness of external wall, roof, floor and window types were considered as decision variables as the scope of the present study is on building envelope. The objectives of the optimization are to minimize life cycle energy (LCE) and life cycle costs (LCC). The LCE difference between the most and least energy efficient solution on the pareto front is greater in case of the OE optimization, compared to OE+EE optimization. For all studied structures, the EE of the optimal solutions from OE+EE optimization ranges 16%–23% of LCE. Many of the non-dominated optimal solutions obtained from the OE+EE optimization shows a higher U-value for the building envelope components compared to the optimal solutions from the OE optimization. A relationship between both OE and EE with the overall thermal resistance of the building envelope is discussed to obtain a deeper understanding of such differences in U-value for the optimal solutions obtained from the OE+EE and OE optimization.
